Dylan meets Grandad & Meme

Self portrait at the lookout point on Doi Suthep
I'm so proud of my Mom, who got her first passport ever in order to cross the globe and meet her grandson. I'm proud of my Dad too, who's done quite a bit of traveling BR (Before Rosemary), but it's been about 40 years! The journey from St. Joseph, Michigan to Chiang Mai, Thailand is a difficult one for even the experienced traveler...much less a traveler who has never left North America (in my Mom's case).
The journey my parents took to get here...
1. 45 minute car ride to Michigan City, Indiana
2. 2 hour (probably a bit longer) bus ride to Chicago, Illinois
3. Shuttle bus ride to hotel
4. Overnight stay at hotel near O'Hare Airport.
5. Shuttle bus ride to airport
6. 12 hour flight Chicago to Seoul
7. 5 hour Seoul to Chiang Mai
8. 20 minute car ride from the airport to our house.
In total, about 24 hours, but the moment my parents got to lay eyes on Dylan for the first time was so worth it! In fact, I'd say it was priceless...
It's crazy how fast the 3 weeks came & went...it's almost surreal. The anticipation of their arrival in combination of the arrival of our son occupied my thoughts for months! I'd been thinking and planning for both events and then Dylan came 11 days early and before I knew it my parents were here. They've only been gone for a week and it all seems like such a whirlwind. Settling into life with a new person in the family, watching the ebb & flow of my hormones adjusting, and wanting to make sure my parents were comfortable in my home were all a bit overwhelming at times...but we made some pretty special memories.
I know my parents will always cherish this time they got to spend with Dylan halfway across the world in the first weeks of his life.
I will always cherish being able to share their first grandchild with them...along with a new corner of the world.
Another self portrait on our porch, this is where Dad liked to spend his mornings.
